Ring size can be determined through a paper, plastic, or metal ring sizer (as a gauge) or simply by measuring the diameter of a ring that is already fitted.

Ring sticks are tools used to measure the inner size of rings. They are typically made from delrin, plastic, wood, aluminium, or of multiple materials. Ring sticks that are digital can be used to take extremely precise measurements.

 International standard

ISO 8653 - 2016 defines the standard sizes for ring rings. It measures the diameter of the ring in millimetres. ISO sizes are commonly used in Austria, France, Germany, Belgium, Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland), and other countries in Continental Europe
